3 Things Thursday

  1. After reviewing the remaining long runs of my training plan with Coach EK of the B.R.A., I have made some modifications that have left me feeling excited and reassured about the final weeks of training. Thank you so much for your help and advice Coach EK!!!

  2. I am Thankful for all your feedback on the Negative Nancy post. It was a very emotional post and left me all sorts of exposed but it was also very therapeutic. Extra special shout outs to Spike & Run Bob Run... Thank you both so much for your emails. Between the post, your feedback and pulling down all my old race stats, I am in a much better place mentally. Did you know I've placed once in my division and in the top 10 in at least 5 different races?!?!? Me either! Why didn't I know this you ask? Because back then I was just running. I wasn't stressing. I was pushing myself to beat my last time and that was it. I never looked at any of the other stats or admittedly, knew what all that even meant! (Pace? What's that? Age Group? Division? Huh?!?! ROOKIE!) I was just having FUN RUNNING. Which is the reason why I got addicted to running in the first place... (well that and being dumped) Now it's time to kick Nancy's @ss and channel those sub 7:30 min mile races!!!

  3. I like to fancy myself a MacGyver of sorts... I find unconventional ways around everyday obstacles (and I love duct tape!). Case in point: The training plan called for 8.5 miles OR Hills today. I decided last night I would opt for hills... now if you've been following for awhile you will know that there are no hills around Orlando. What's a girl to do? Well there's a overpass over in my old neighborhood that I've used for this very reason. BUT WAIT... When I woke up this morning it was raining! *GASP* We all know I hate running in the rain and the Dreadmill is NEVER an option, so it was time to get resourceful... enter Parking Garage Incline Repeats! Oh yes my friends... two times around a two block radius to warm up and then 6 charging repeats up a two story parking garage with a lap around the garage in between each before another two times around the block to cool down. How do you like them apples?!

How do you improvise your training when life throws a monkey wrench in the mix???

I love the improv girl! Glad you got those hills in. Seriously, how awesome is Coach EK?!? Happy we have him and Coach Tom AND Coach V around.

I just absolutely cannot wait for your marathon recap. SOOOOOO EXCITED FOR YOU!

I don't improvise. Unless there is lightning in the area I run. Sure, I may be biased because I enjoy running in the rain, but doing so also allows me to understand what effect it has on my clothing choices (shoes and socks included). Doing a medium distance run in the rain can actually help you make a better race day choice. I'll have to do a post on this next week.

Hey Girl!
Glad you are feeling better and Motivated Morgan is back, I like her best!!!
Love the parking garage idea cuz I have the same problem living in Winter Haven, only problem.....in Polk County, you don't find too many parking garages either...I may be screwed!!!!
Have a great weekend!!
BTW - my word verification word right now is "poody" - made me laugh......

Ummm you stole my idea!! Lol glad you got a good workout :) You'll be in Chi-town before you know it.

You better eat some good Chicago deep dish and a beef sandwich when this is all done. You've earned it.

Nice improv!!

I've run my stairs before, up and down about a hundred times, to get in a workout. Don't recommend it. :-)

Way to improvise - I love how the FL girls can always find a hill even when there isn't one! SOunds like you had a great workout!! :)

parking garage inclinerepeats - that's awesome!! Way to get creative with your resources.

Glad you're feeling better about everything. Sometimes it helps to just SPILL.

Have a great Thursday!

Way to be resourceful. I don't think I would have thought to run in a parking garage. Those inclines are steep too. Great job!!!

OK, garage inclines are a new one to me. Good thinking! I find myself ducking in garages despite the fact that I'm only slightly taller than a hobbit. Did you duck during your repeats?

Genius! It's pouring here today, and now I'm trying to think of where I can find a parking garage later. Hmmm.

That is CREATIVE!! Good work.. So funny...I look at my place the minute the list comes out...Rookie or not I am competitive.. but that is the "Fun" part for me.

Have a great day pretty girl!

That is a great idea! I would have never thought of that! Way to improvise!!! Chicago is just around the corner! You will do GREAT!!!!

You are so resourceful and so on the ball. I'm amazed and jealous that I can't be that quick to think!

i can't believe you ran in a parking garage! i have definitely thought of it before as a hill workout but i always chicken out because i'm afraid there will be bums or dangerous people lurking in there, especially in the dark of the morning/night. (ok, didn't mean to scare you, sorry). great idea though!

so i'm curious. is there a plan for chicago or just get it done and have fun? (or mostly the latter, but with some potential goals in mind as well?)

i love that you text me "it's raining" and then go and run hills on the ramps of our parking garage. My response "good, i'm tired." keep rockin' it!

Good move on the parking garage!

When I was training for crew in college, we would have to run the parking garage - while holding a teammate on piggy-back. Needless to say, it was much harder when I was put into a heavyweight boat for a season....

Great use of an ugly man-made structure! I worked out once on a stair landing when my grandfather was in the hospital and used the emergency staircase as my person heck going up and down repeatedly. It's amazing what you'll do when you want to workout!

Parking Garage = Brilliant! Way to improvise. I hate running on my dreadmill too, so unless it is lighting, I'm running in the rain! People look at me from their car windows like I am nuts! I probably am.....

Elina said...

Wow, that's hardcore. I choose the treadmill... :)
