- Not Forgotten... If I ever think y'all have given up reading my non-running adventures just remind me to check out yesterday's post and all the feedback I got about what I should do about this stupid leg of mine. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your comments, emails, words of encouragement, fist shakes to the leg, and most especially the reassurance that I am still a runner and not crazy for feeling this way. You guys are seriously the best. (And may or may not have made me cry several times)
- Calcium Queen... A lot of you wondered about my calcium/vitamin D situation and I just wanted to assure you that I've been on an increased dose of both since practically the get go. I also had bloodwork done back in June and all my levels came back well within range. For those that wondered about my period situation, you can also read more about that in that post. (Although there will be another post on this particular subject in the near future. Stay tuned.) In short, as I said, I've been doing everything I could possibly do to help this along; hobble around on crutches and/or in the boot for the first 17 weeks, xtrain when I could, do nothing when I couldn't, take all the supplements I could get my hands on that might help, ice regularly, PT it up almost every day, etc... While I have looked in to bone stimulator's, they are extremely expensive and not covered by insurance so that will have to be a last resort $3k investment. I'm still putting together what I'll do about Monday's call, but I assure you there will be some serious discussions to be had.
- A different kind of PT... Personal Trainer that is. Our gym is running a promo for the ladies this month for a free 30 min session with a personal trainer to get acquainted with the free weights section of the gym. Since I'm back on xtraining restriction I figured this would be an excellent opportunity to tune up my free weights knowledge. My session is Saturday morning and I'm pretty pumped, I already spoke to the trainer and let him know my leg situation and also that I wanted to tone out these beefed up arms of mine and he said he knows exactly the kind of
torturetraining I need. Have you ever taken advantage of the personal trainers at your gym?

I've been listing weights since I was 13 years old. I had my very first session with a personal trainer on Sunday! After being set in my own ways for so long it was refreshing to get some new ideas and techniques.
You have a great attitude. Went back and read your post from yesterday. What a crappy, TOO long journey. Some day, some day we will both be ok.
My heart really feels for you and I am amazed at your strength and determination to get to the other side of this. You are amazing!
Awesome on the free personal trainer session! You are going to be RIPPED!
You really have done everything right. Things HAVE to start going your way. Good news on your blood levels!
I would love to work with a personal trainer. I'm horrible about strength training, mainly because I just don't know what to do. I need someone getting all Jillian on my ass.
You lost me a "period situation." Comma, and exclamation point situations I can handle...
Bone stimulation sounds scary...I'm going to have to google that one.
I did a free personal trainer thing at my gym once, but it seemed kind of worthless because she didn't really tell me anything I didn't know. Though, having a running coach has certainly helped me. So maybe it's just the person has to be right.
I'm a little behind on my blog reading so I had to go and catch up yesterday's post.
It sounds like you need a solid second opinion. Something just doesn't seem right. Not to go off on too much of a tangent but I have a friend who had serious back pain and was told his running career was over. After going back and forth with his doctor about how his foot hurt too, he finally saw an orthopedic specialist only to find out one leg was longer than the other and he needed orthotics. Problem completely solved. In fact he won the 5k I did the other week.
I hope you have some success with your Monday call.
PS: You ARE a runner!
PPS: Pink trimmed Asics are not really my style.
Can't wait to hear how it goes with the trainer! I've never worked with one but I've always thought it would be a real eye opening experience. I know next to nothing about weight training.
You know you have thousands of fingers crossed for Monday's call + discussion - stay strong and get those answers!!
As for #3 - GOOD DEAL! I'd jump all over that - hope its fun :)
I'm just catching up a little on your blog. :( I'm so sorry you've been having so much trouble with your leg!
i got a groupon to try a personal trainer and it nearly killed me :) guess they really do help you find your limitations!
You mean those guns might get BIGGER????? LOL
Awww my heart goes out to you. Enough already.
Definitely try the personal trainer! I love them! They make me do things I'd never think of on my own. Mars (my trainer who I'm not currently going to cuz I can't walk for 3 days after a session) is awesome.
Love love my PT!!! You will enjoy it.
I ALWAYS try to take advantage of the personal trainers. But they are completely immune to my advances. They must teach them how to deal with clients like me in PT school.
"so, come here often?....."
